Psalm 127:1-2 “Get Some Sleep”
Today is day 10 of 40 Days to Easter. Yesterday I talked about waiting on the Lord in order to achieve the strength and rest we need. But using common sense is important as well. If we are tired, the problem might be getting too little sleep. Archibald Hart spoke of the importance of sleep at a pastors’ conference I attended. Getting too much sleep can be a sign of laziness and is discouraged often in the Bible (Prov. 6:9-11) but getting too little sleep might be an indication of a lack of faith in God (Ps. 127:1-2). Diligence apart from trusting God is vain, meaningless, and empty, for without Jesus we can do nothing (Jn. 15:5).
So meditate on the verses below, determine to get enough sleep, and have a great day!
Isa. 40:31 But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Ps. 127:1-2 Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.
Prov. 6:9-11 How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep— so shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.
