1 John 5:11-13 “Assurance of Salvation”
This is Friday, February 26, 2021, day 3 of Forty Days to Easter. We learned that all scripture is inspired by God, profitable, and life transforming (2 Tim. 3:16-17). In 2 Tim. 3:15, we learned that scripture is “able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Because of our sin, we do not deserve to go to heaven, but Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin, and if we respond by faith, trusting Jesus as our Savior and Lord, we will have everlasting life.
In 1 Jn. 5:11-13, the apostle John expands on this. “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. We can know that we are going to heaven if we believe in Jesus.
But believing in Jesus should make a difference in our lives. Tomorrow we are going to consider 1 Jn. 2:3, “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.” Thank you for joining me today as we continue to focus on Jesus and His Word, and please consider sharing on Facebook so that more people can hear what the Bible has to say. Have a great day!
