Mt. 28:6 “Darkness Before the Light”
The disciples were having a hard time. They thought that Jesus would usher in a new era, casting off the restraints of the Roman Empire and reigning as King. But He had been crucified on the cross and hope was gone. They had forgotten that Jesus had said He would die and then rise again in three days. But then came Sunday morning and the message of the angel in Mt. 28:6, “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.” Great news after their hopes had been dashed by Jesus’ crucifixion.
The gospel is the good news that, even though we are sinners and deserve to be separated from God, Jesus died on the cross and rose again so that through faith in Jesus we can have everlasting life (Jn. 3:16) and live a new kind of life (Rom. 6:4). If we have turned from our sins and trusted Jesus as Savior and Lord, this is good news to celebrate and share!
