Some philosophers and theologians believe that man is basically good and that the only reason people do evil is because of their environment. It is true that Adam and Eve were good when God created them. In fact, as they were enjoying the Garden of Eden and walks with God, they had never sinned. Until Genesis 3. Through the serpent, Satan tempted Eve to doubt God’s word and His goodness. She chose to believe the serpent rather than God, she ate of the fruit of the tree God had commanded her not to eat, and sin entered the world. Adam in turn chose Eve over God and ate of the forbidden fruit as well. As a result, fellowship with God was broken and Adam and Eve had to leave the Garden of Eden.

The sin of Adam and Eve resulted in the entire human race having a sinful nature, evidenced by deceit and wickedness and so much more (Jeremiah 17:9). Even though some men seem to be better than others, according to Paul in Romans 3:10, no one is righteous. He might have been referring to Psalm 14:1-3 where the statement is made that “there is none who does good, not even one.”
-
Because of sin, mankind is separated from God and cannot help himself. That is why we are in dire need of some good news.
