Day 20: 3/6/26 – Acts 4:12 “The Narrow Way”

Back to 50 Days of Purpose Main Page

Questions

  • Is everyone going to heaven?
  • What does it take to go there?

Scripture

  • John 3:1-21, 36
  • John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
  • Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Thoughts

  • Universalism is a theological position that everyone is going to heaven. It sounds nice, but there are two problems with it. First and foremost, universalism is not taught in the Bible. Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Even more clear is the Apostle John’s statement in John 3:36. “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” The broad way leads to destruction; the narrow way leads to life (Matthew 7:13-14).
  • The second problem with universalism is that it negates the justice of God. There are consequences to sin. If the wages of sin is death, someone has to die when sin takes place. The unique aspect of Christianity is that Jesus died in our place on the cross. God is still just and exercises His wrath toward sin, but His love is so great He provided substitutionary atonement through the death of His Son. But to experience this forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life, we must exercise faith in Jesus Christ.
  • If universalism is true, Jesus would not have needed to die on the cross. But He did die, for you, for me, for everyone. Have you chosen to believe? Are you encouraging others to do so?

Action Items

    • Write down some reasons people give when asked why they are going to heaven.
    • Thank God for the fact that we can go to heaven through faith in Jesus Christ because He was crucified for us.
    • Tell someone about Jesus, even if they already know (practice).
