Thoughts

• It could be said that the Jewish nation was born in Genesis 12. The Lord had entreated Abram to leave his country and father’s house and go to a land that would be revealed to him at the appropriate time. In Genesis 12:2-3 the Lord said, “I will make you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Quite a promise to Abram and the Jewish nation! But notice the last phrase “and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
• The descendants of Abraham, the Jewish nation, were set apart to God in a special way. They were known as God’s people, and God worked mightily on their behalf. But the ultimate outcome of God’s promise to Abram was all the families of the earth being blessed. Because of the death and resurrection of one of Abraham’s descendants, Jesus Christ, eternal and abundant life are offered to all who believe. Can you think of a greater blessing?
• This message of blessing and good news is to be shared with all the families of the earth. We as Christians have the responsibility to proclaim the gospel to every creature. Those who become Christians because of our witness have the same responsibility. Making disciples who make disciples. This is what missions is all about.
