Thoughts

• Right before He ascended to heaven, Jesus spoke these very important words, words that were a significant priority to Him. Jesus was focused consistently on His Father’s business (Luke 2:49) and He wanted the disciples to do the same. He realized that they would not be able to fulfill the Great Commission on their own. In fact, Jesus knew that they could do nothing without Him (John 15:5). So He promised they would have power to be witnesses when the Holy Spirit came upon them, at Pentecost.
• Jesus knew that His Father’s love was for the whole world, so He wanted the message to be communicated to every creature. He chose men, His disciples, to spread the good news. His strategy is still in place. He desires that you and I be witnesses to Him starting at home and spreading around the world. We cannot do it all, obviously, but all of us should be a part of making disciples who make disciples.
• The question is whether, by God’s grace, we can adopt the mindset of Jesus? We tend to be distracted by the affairs of this life because our mind is set on things on the earth rather than things above. The more we think like Jesus, the more missional we will become.
