Thoughts

• Previously we discussed that God has revealed Himself through creation (Romans 1:20), through conscience (2:15), and through His word (3:1-2). It is through the message of the gospel that we know of our need to turn from our sins and trust Jesus as Savior. In Romans 10:14-15 Paul says, “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!'” The gospel is found in the Bible.
• Paul made the same point in 2 Timothy 3:14-15 when he said, “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Through God’s word we learn how to be saved through faith in Jesus. And through the Great Commission, found in the Bible, we learn that we should lead people to Jesus.
• Through God’s word we are taught so many things. But even if the only thing we gleaned was how to be saved, obviously we should learn God’s word. One of the priorities of the church is to make disciples who learn God’s word.
