Thoughts
-
Yesterday we talked about the Great Commandment. A pressing priority for Jesus is that we love the Lord and love one another. Paul also talks about love extensively. In 1 Timothy 1:5 he says to his mentee Timothy, “Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith.” The purpose of the commandment is love, which takes us back to the ten commandments in Exodus 20.
-
If we love God, we will have no other Gods before Him, we will not make an idol to worship, we will not take the name of the Lord in vain, and we will remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. If we love people we will honor our father and mother and we will not murder, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness, or covet. As we love genuinely, we will fulfill the law.
-
In our present society, we hear a lot of talk about love. In the Bible, we learn how to love. That is why we need to learn God’s word and love God’s people.
Action Items

-
Read through the ten commandments and ask yourself if there are ways you have not shown the love you should have.
