4/4/25 Philippians 2:5-11 “Humility and Obedience”
Jesus talked about His upcoming sacrifice in John 12:24. Paul looked back at the sacrifice of Jesus in Philippians 2:5-8. Jesus knew He was equal with God, but He left the splendor of heaven and was born as a baby and lived on the earth for about thirty three years. According to Philippians 2:8, “He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”
Incarnation is the word that is used to describe Jesus becoming a man. We know about the crucifixion of Jesus, the fact that He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus’ incarnation and His death on the cross would not have taken place without His humility and obedience. Because of His humility, Jesus was willing to lay down some of His divine qualities. Because of His obedience, Jesus was willing to fulfill God’s purpose, resulting in salvation for those who believe.
Notice Philippians 2:5. Paul said, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” We should have the same perspective, the same attitude, that Jesus had. Just as Jesus, we should exhibit humility and obedience.
