3/26/25 John 8:31-32 “Learn God’s Word”
Not only should a disciple love God and love people, but a disciple should also learn God’s word. In the first century, teachers would have disciples that would follow them, listening to them teach and watching how they live. Jesus’ disciples did the same. And Jesus expected the Jews who believed in Him to do the same. In fact, in John 8:31-32, Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
According to Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, the Bible is inspired by God and is profitable. In the Bible we learn how to be saved. In the Bible we learn how to live for Jesus Christ, to live a holy life. Jesus prayed in John 17:17, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” David indicated in Psalm 119:37 that when we memorize scripture, it helps us to refrain from sinning against God. The reality is that when we change the way we think, bringing our thoughts into line with God’s word and will, then our behavior will change too.
Spending time in God’s word takes time and effort. But it promises to make all the difference in the world in our lives. How committed are we to read and study and learn God’s word?
