3/27/25 John 15:5, 8 “Live an Extraordinary Life”
A disciple should love God and love people. A disciple should learn God’s word. And a disciple should live an extraordinary life. As Christians, we are supposed to be different. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” So once we are saved, Jesus Christ helps us to live a different kind of life, to walk in newness of life as Paul says in Romans 6:4.
The only way we can be different and live a new kind of life is through Jesus Christ. In Philippians 4:13 Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Jesus said the following in John 15:5. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” There is no way for us to be spiritually productive without abiding in Christ, spending time with Him through Bible study and prayer and going to church.
Jesus goes on to say in John 15:8, “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” So we are genuine disciples when we abide in Christ, bear much fruit, and glorify God. Perhaps some of us need to spend more time focusing on our relationship with Jesus Christ so that we can bear much fruit and glorify God. Then we will be living an extraordinary life.
