3/13/25 Matthew 4:21-22 “The Cost of Following Jesus”
Andrew and Peter were not the only fishermen that Jesus encountered that day. Two other brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were in the boat with their father mending their nets. They were also fishermen, and apparently they had a thriving family business, including a boat and nets and according to Mark 1:20 hired servants. When Jesus called James and John, immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
Most of us agree with the idea of following Jesus. At least theoretically we know we should trust Jesus as our Savior and live our lives for Him. But how many of us are willing to do what James and John did. They did not hesitate but instead immediately, right away, left their job and their family to follow after an itinerant teacher. Following Jesus is not easy. Check out how Jesus describes it in Matthew 16:24. Following Jesus takes sacrifice, but doing so is worth it all!
