3/31/25 Mark 16:15 “The Great Commission”
It is called The Great Commission. Along with the command in Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples by going, baptizing, and teaching, Jesus said in Mark 16:15, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
The message is the gospel, εὐαγγέλιον, which means good news. The good news, according to Paul in Romans 5:8, is that “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We deserve to perish because of our sin, but we can experience eternal life if we believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose again. If we depend on Him or rely on Him to save us. That is good news!
The message is to be proclaimed everywhere and to everyone. That is challenging. Billy Graham preached to an estimated 215 million people in person. The population of the world is over eight billion. Some countries have very little gospel witness. We have a long way to go. But if the majority of Christians would reach one person every year, the task would be doable. The question is, are we doing our part to proclaim the gospel everywhere to everyone?
