4/8/25 Acts 1:8 “The Power of the Holy Spirit”
In order to show people love and share Him effectively, we need faith and focus. As we trust Him, God helps us love through the power of the Holy Spirit. He also helps us to witness. In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Notice the word power connected to being witnesses. The power comes through the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, who was to come at Pentecost (which took place in Acts 2). Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would not only help the disciples love (Romans 5:5) but would help them share Him.
Jesus talked about the Holy Spirit during the upper room discourse, just before he was betrayed in the Garden called Gethsemane. In John 14:16-17 Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — the Spirit of truth.” He goes on to say in verse 18, “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” Jesus comes to us through the Holy Spirit and gives us the power that we need to love, to witness, and do do whatever else He wants us to do. As Paul said in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Are we depending on Christ consistently to work His perfect will in and through us through the power of the Holy Spirit? Without faith, we cannot please God (Hebrews 11:6).
