3/30/25 Matthew 22:34-40 “Why Witness?”
Why should we fish for men? Why should we evangelize, witness, share the gospel? Doing so is not easy. Why go to the trouble? The reason goes back to the Great Commandment emphasized by Jesus.
Number one, we should witness because we love God and His Son Jesus. In John 14:15 Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” One of His commandments is found in Matthew 28:19-20. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” If we love Jesus, we will make disciples, going and sharing the gospel and helping the new Christian to grow.
Number two, we should witness because we love people, just like God so loved the world (John 3:16). Jesus said no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6), so we need to share Jesus so that people can believe the gospel and inherit eternal life. In other words, if we love people we should want them to go to heaven, and in order to go to heaven they need to hear and believe the gospel, the good news about Jesus. So if we love Jesus, who is God, and if we love one another, we will witness.
