3/20/25 1 John 1:1-4 “Making a Difference”
Years later one of the four called to follow Jesus in Matthew 4:18-22 reflected on his experience. John indicated that he and his fellow disciples had heard Jesus, seen Him with their eyes, gazed upon Him, and touched Him. The Word of life, the thought or concept of deity expressed in a person, was made known to the disciples, and they not only experienced but also shared Him with others. The result with fellowship, both vertical and horizontal, as well as fullness of joy. Their time with Jesus made an enormous difference in their lives as well as the lives of others.
The same should be true of us. As we spend time with Jesus in the Bible, in prayer, and with other Christians, we will get to know Jesus better and impact people around us too. The vertical fellowship has to do with our relationship with God, loving God with all of our heart and soul and mind and strength. The horizontal fellowship has to do with our relationships with each other, loving one another. This was the emphasis of Jesus when he was asked what was the greatest commandment. And this was the experience of Andrew, Peter, James, and John.
We should be asking ourselves the questions, am I experiencing Jesus on a regular basis and am I loving Him and loving others? Relationship with Jesus Christ should make a difference in our lives and enable us to make a difference in the lives of others.
