For the last forty days we have been considering 50 Days of Purpose. Ten days left until Easter. For Daniel, ten days was a good time frame for testing. After they were taken into captivity, Daniel and his three friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, were given the best food and wine of the king on Babylon. But Daniel knew that eating the king’s food and drinking his wine was not pleasing to God. So, according to Daniel 1:8, “Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank.” Daniel asked the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had put over him and his three friends if they could eat vegetables and drink water instead to see how they would be doing after ten days. After ten days, they were doing great physically and mentally (Daniel 1:9-21). And God was glorified.

Just like Daniel, we should live for God’s glory by not doing what is wrong and instead doing what is right. Doing so can be challenging, just as it was for Daniel and his friends. But living in such a way to glorify God is also rewarding and very worthwhile. One of our top priorities should be to live for God’s glory.
