Colossians 3:1-2 “A Heavenly Perspective”

Colossians 3:1-2 “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Jesus made it clear that we should spend less time worrying about everyday life and more time thinking about living for Him. In Matthew 6:25-34, in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, He indicates that worrying about food and drink and clothing does no good. Our Heavenly Father knows we need these things (verses 31-32). Instead we should “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (verse 33).
The idea of putting God first is not foreign to many of us. In fact, theoretically, most of us would agree that our hierarchy should be God first, people second, and tasks third. But practically many of us do not live this way. In fact, for some of use the order of priorities in practice is tasks, people, and then God.
The 50 Days of Purpose emphasis give us an opportunity to reset, to begin living according to God’s purpose rather than the way we are doing things now. If we are truly putting God first, we will seek to do things His way, to live according to His priorities. And one of God’s biggest priorities is for us to lead people to Jesus. Shall we determine, by God’s grace, to live according to His priorities?

- Think through your hierarchy of priorities. Where do God, family, church, people, job, hobbies, etc. fall in place?
- Determine to live according to God’s priorities. “Seek those things which are above…. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
