4/7/25 Romans 5:1-5 “Faith and Focus”
If we have compassion, we will Show People Love And Share Him (SPLASH). In doing so we will be fulfilling the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. But in order to do so, two characteristics need to be true in our lives.
The first one is faith. We cannot show love or share Jesus effectively apart from God working in our lives. According to Paul in Romans 5:5, “the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Paul said in Galatians 5:22 that “the fruit of the Spirit is love.” Without Jesus we can do nothing (John 15:5). We certainly cannot love well. Nor can we witness well without the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).
The second characteristic is focus. Not only do we need to trust God to help us love, we must concentrate on people. In the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37, the priest and the Levite passed by on the other side of the road while the Samaritan stopped to help the person in need. He was focused on the needs of the person. Sometime we have so many things going on ourselves that we neglect others and their needs. Take time to look out for the interests of others (Philippians 2:3-4).
We should focus not only on people but on the gospel. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” To show love and not to share Jesus would be an eternal disservice.
