4/18/25 Romans 5:6-11 “Good Friday”
Today we celebrate Good Friday. Some horrible things took place on this day in history. Jesus was tried, scourged and had to carry His cross to Golgotha. There He was nailed to the cross and was crucified, a horrible means of torture and death developed by the Roman Empire. The suffering of Jesus was immense. Physically, He suffered great pain. Emotionally, He bore the guilt of every sin that had ever been committed or would ever be committed. Spiritually, for a time He was separated from the Father. Jesus experienced more pain than anyone had or would.
But instead of calling the day of Jesus’ crucifixion Bad Friday, we call it Good Friday. For on that day Jesus paid the penalty for our sins. According to Isaiah 53:5-7, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; … And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. “Because of that day, if we believe in Jesus, we can experience everlasting life (John 3:16). Paul put it this way in Romans 5:6-9. “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” That is good news for us because of events that took place on Good Friday.
