Thoughts

Jesus was committed to doing God’s will because He wanted to please His Father. One way He ascertained God’s will was by learning God’s word through reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating. Another was by praying. James wrote that asking God in faith for wisdom results in wisdom being given (James 1:5-8). Jesus depended on God to give Him the wisdom He needed.

Before choosing the twelve disciples who would follow Him during His earthly ministry and lead the church following His ascension to heaven, Jesus retreated to a mountain to pray, and according to verse 12 “He continued all night in prayer to God” (Luke 6:12-16). If Jesus had to pray to understand God’s will, you and I definitely need to do so.

Please join me in prayer as we go through 50 Days of Purpose. Pray that God will give wisdom as we consider His will for us as individuals and as a church. And pray that through this process, God will do far above all that we can ask or think, for His glory (Ephesians 3:20-21).
