4/21/25 Romans 6:1-11 “Walking in Newness of Life”
Celebrating Easter and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is always fun. Trying to imagine what it was like to approach Jesus’ tomb only to find it empty. Trying to imagine what it was like to move from despair because of the crucifixion to excitement because of the resurrection of Jesus. But celebrating the resurrection should consist of more than imagining. We should be experiencing something ourselves.
First, if we have not done so, we need to experience becoming a new creature through faith in Jesus, through being born again. Because of our sin we deserve to spend eternity separated from God, but because of what Jesus did on the cross we can experience heaven and being in God’s presence forever, if we believe. If we depend on Jesus to save us because of what He did on the cross. Depending on Jesus to save us is the most important step we will ever take.
Second, if we already know Jesus Christ as Savior. we need to experience the reality of dying to sin and walking in newness of life. According to Romans 6:11, we should reckon ourselves “to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Through the power of the resurrection, God can change us and use us to accomplish His purpose. Let us trust Him to do just that!
